Trevor's Story Trevor is a long-term volunteer at Westbank Community Health and Care, whose dedication and reliability over the past 10 years make him an essential part of our team. He plays a key role in the Transport Services team, regularly transporting patients home from hospital and ensuring they get home safely. He also collects and delivers medical equipment across Devon, helping to keep vital services running smoothly. A familiar face on the roads around Exeter and East Devon, Trevor also takes local patients to medical appointments and brings service users into Westbank’s Healthy Living Centre for activities and lunch clubs. In addition to his driving duties, Trevor supports several of Westbank’s weekly social activities which take place in The Community Hub. Every Monday, he assists with the Social Lunch Group, and on Tuesdays, he is a vital part of the Men’s Brunch Group – welcoming service users, serving food and ensuring these groups run smoothly so that attendees feel welcomed and supported and there’s always a friendly face on hand to welcome them. Trevor is familiar with everyone who attends and knows their likes and dislikes, which makes people feel valued and listened to. Trevor is known for his flexibility and willingness to help at short notice. Whether it’s stepping in to support a group, or providing urgent transport for a hospital discharge, he is always ready to lend a hand. He keeps our team updated with his availability and consistently makes time for Westbank whenever he can. Over the years, Trevor has touched the lives of countless service users who are always grateful for his kindness and support. His steadfast commitment and willingness to always lend a hand make him a truly exceptional volunteer. Trevor says of his volunteering role “I don’t count the hours, I just enjoy doing it. You meet some lovely people, and they tell you their life story. Lots of people are so lonely, and it helps get them out and gives them someone to talk to. Seeing them at clubs laughing and joking together makes you feel good. You meet some beautiful souls and find out what they’ve been through. I’ve been at Westbank so long that some of the people I got attached to have passed away. “Volunteering keeps me happy and busy. I like to feel useful. Sometimes people are so grateful, they try to offer me money. I tell them any donations go straight to Westbank.” Manage Cookie Preferences
